About Us

Who am I?

Wow that’s a loaded question, isn’t it? Well let me start with what I think you care about. My name is Michael Shorter. I am, first and foremost, a father. A proud soccer dad who couldn’t be more proud of who his son is growing up to be. Second, I’m a crusty ole Vet, which basically means I make jokes at life’s expense, as often as I can. Lastly, I am a Social Worker. While I go to great effort to learn new ways to help people, I try to never forget the power of human connection. It is more important that one can speak another person’s language than it is for them to flout how much they know. I love to find new ways to take complex information and put it in terms that a normal person would understand.

I love helping people who may not even have a clue on what they need help with. I don’t want anyone to feel as though they need to have a firm grasp on what they need help with. All that is needed is to know that a change is necessary.

The last, but certainly not least, valuable piece of information about me is that I have an amazing sidekick. His name is Wicked, and he is my service dog. He brings peace and tranquility where ever he goes. Don’t worry he also has his degree in counseling as well as bound by the same privacy laws that I am. What is said in the presence of Wicked stays confidential.

Now for the boring stuff:

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I joined the counseling field in 2018 as a counselor at a residential rehab and started my practice in 2020. I have a burning passion to help people who are survivor’s of trauma, people who struggle with addiction and anxiety disorders. I am trained in EMDR and IFS, two forms of trauma resolution therapy,  and I am a member of the International Association of Trauma Professionals, as well as a certified Telehealth professional.
